Transdisciplinary Learning: Catalan and the Nation State

Grade 8 students were able to hear from Grade 11 DP students in a cross-departmental collaboration between World Languages and Humanities on the referendum in Catalonia and the threat is poses to the nation state of Spain. DP Spanish Language Students from Grade 11 presented the causes of the Catalonian push for independence, the threat it presents to the Spanish government in Madrid, and the impact it had on demonstrators in the streets. Students in Grade 8 extended the ideas further to investigate the response from the European Union, the question of sovereignty and civil liberties, as well as how conflict is significant in catalyzing social change. Well done to our students!
